Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about SideShift, how swaps work, privacy, security, and the UGC campaign.

💬

General

5
What is SideShift?

SideShift is a non-custodial cryptocurrency swap service that allows users to exchange one cryptocurrency for another without creating an account, providing an email address, or completing identity verification. It was launched in 2018 and has processed over $2 billion in swap volume.

Is SideShift an exchange?

SideShift is technically a swap service, not a traditional exchange. It does not have an order book and does not allow users to post buy/sell orders. Instead, it provides a rate and executes the swap when a deposit is received.

Do I need to create an account?

No. SideShift requires absolutely no account creation, no email address, and no registration of any kind. Each swap is a self-contained transaction.

Is SideShift available in my country?

SideShift does not enforce country-based restrictions on users of the swap interface. It operates on a permissive access model consistent with its non-custodial, account-free design.

Who created SideShift?

SideShift was created by SideShift AI Ltd. It operates as an independent crypto swap service. The company and product details are available on the official SideShift.ai website.

Swaps & Fees

6
How long does a swap take?

Most swaps complete within 10–30 minutes. The primary variable is how long the deposit blockchain takes to confirm the incoming transaction. Bitcoin deposits typically require 1–3 confirmations, which can take 10–45 minutes depending on network conditions. EVM-based deposits usually confirm much faster.

What fees does SideShift charge?

SideShift charges a service fee that is baked into the quoted rate, so you see the inclusive rate before committing to the swap. This is separate from blockchain network fees, which are paid by the user when sending the deposit. The exact fee percentage may vary by pair.

What is the minimum swap amount?

Minimums vary by trading pair and are dynamically set based on network fees and liquidity. The interface shows the current minimum and maximum for each pair before you create an order. Never send below the minimum — the deposit may be lost.

What happens if I send less than the minimum?

If you send an amount below the minimum for the pair, the swap will not process. Contact SideShift support via their official site with your order ID and transaction hash for potential recovery assistance. There are no guarantees for out-of-range deposits.

What is the maximum swap amount?

Maximums are also shown on the interface and vary by pair and current liquidity. For amounts above the maximum, you may need to split the swap into multiple orders.

Can I cancel a swap after sending?

Swaps cannot be cancelled once a deposit has been confirmed on the blockchain. The automated settlement process begins immediately upon confirmation. If you have an issue, contact SideShift support with your order ID.

Privacy & Security

5
Does SideShift require KYC?

No. SideShift does not require Know Your Customer (KYC) identity verification. No government-issued ID, selfies, or personal information are collected for standard swaps.

Does SideShift store my data?

SideShift stores swap order data for operational and compliance purposes, but since no accounts exist, there is no personal profile tied to any order. Order IDs are shareable and not tied to an identity.

Is SideShift safe to use?

SideShift is designed to be safe through its non-custodial architecture — it does not hold funds in wallets tied to user accounts. The main risk to users is sending to an incorrect address, which is irreversible on any blockchain. Always triple-check your destination address.

How do I know the deposit address is legitimate?

Always access SideShift at the official URL: sideshift.ai. The deposit address is generated by SideShift and displayed within the order page. Phishing sites may display fake addresses — bookmark the official URL and verify the SSL certificate before every use.

Can SideShift recover funds sent to a wrong address?

If you entered an incorrect destination address when creating the order, SideShift cannot recover those funds after settlement. Always verify your destination wallet address before creating the order.

Orders & Tracking

4
How do I track my order?

Each SideShift order has a unique order page URL. Keep this URL bookmarked to track your order status in real time. The page shows every stage: Waiting for Deposit → Confirming → Processing → Complete.

What are the order statuses?

Orders move through these statuses: Waiting (no deposit detected), Confirming (deposit detected, awaiting confirmations), Processing (swap executing), Complete (settlement sent), and in some cases, Refund (deposit returned if there was an issue).

I sent my deposit but the order page shows "Waiting". What do I do?

First, verify the transaction is confirmed on a block explorer using your transaction hash. If it's confirmed, the SideShift order page typically updates within a few minutes. Network congestion can cause delays. If it has been over an hour, contact SideShift support with your order ID and transaction hash.

Can I re-use a deposit address?

No. Each SideShift order generates a unique deposit address with a time window. After the order expires, the address should not be used. Never send a second deposit to a completed or expired order address.
